This Fang Gil mask is an iconic piece in the Heritage Collection. Originating from the Fang people (present in Gabon, Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea), it was used in the “Byeri” cult, an ancestral ritual dedicated to the veneration of ancestors and the protection of the community.

Recognizable by its elongated face, refined features and contrast of colours – white symbolizing purity and connection to ancestors, and black mystical power – this mask reflects the sobriety and elegance of Fang art.
